Question: Sceptics: are you aware that even the big energy companies believe in climate change now?

( Back )

Answer #1:

Yes I believe they believe since there is money to be made. It's all about the mighty Dollar.

Answer #2:

I am glad that you put quotes around "believe".

Power companies (using fossil fuel for generation) have been posturing in the "global warming" theater for some time..... building wind/solar farms.... etc...... with the sole intention of being in a position to offset some of their carbon liability (and if they can make a few bucks, by getting more consessions down the road..... then so much the better).

They also cover their bases as regards public relations. A good move on their part!

Answer #3:

I guess there is nothing wrong with taking a couple of hundred million from the tax payer as the climate changes.....

Answer #4:

Hey - Give me $154 Million in Corporate welfare, and I'll be the biggest believer in so-called "Global Warming" as well.

Answer #5:

Actually, most of them don't believe in climate change but they know that they have to do what is best in public opinion. Most of them know just how much CO2 is man made versus natural. I should know, I have people working in the power industry.

Answer #6:

All this government shameless materialistic phonyness is really deserving of satiric mockery and ridicule. If the entire human race had aspergers and all people in this field were spiritual reincarnations of Sir Isaak Newton the whole world would be beyond perfect, pure, probably even heaven on earth.

Answer #7:

Wow an energy company wantting to cover its bases and may have to move with the times if people are tricked into cap and trade ect.

Easy to see through why they would make the move. Beleieve ha. Believe they better diversify, YES.

Answer #8:

wow!
for that kind of instant return on investment I'd not only go green I'd paint myself purple & walk down wall street doing the full monty.

Answer #9:

Only the foolish can't see the writing on the wall.Every where you look people are investing in renew ables. One would have to have their head in the sand not to realize the future is changing.

Answer #10:

It must be weird to be all alone on the denial trip.

Answer #11:

They're getting paid $154 million to believe in climate change?

I'd believe in Santa Clause and the tooth fairy for a fraction of that.

Answer #12:

That is a double edged sword. Do you know how much money companies that make "green" products are making? I mean seriously, did you see how many add endorsements were in "An Inconvenient Truth"??? And then Carbon credit proposals? By any interpretation, someone can have an agenda.

Answer #13:

Oh, well then, that's enough for me! I'm convinced. (just kidding, of course)

My skepticism was never about climate change. Not ever. Climate changes. My skepticism was whether the "fix" of carbon trading and taxation of energy production would provide even a hint of improvement in climate. It hasn't. It won't. It can't! Responsible humans (especially skeptics like me) want: resource conservation, recylcling, innovation, alternate energy sources, energy independence. Not population control. Not taxation to force reduction in consumption. Not sequestration of carbon dioxide (that's truly inane, except to use the gas pressure to get more out of an oil well). Not blaming humans for their own civilization. Big corporations exist to make money. They'll sell your soul to do it.

Answer #14:

Getting $154Mil after spending just under $1Mil is very good return on investment, Global Warming or not...

Answer #15:

They've figured out a way to make it work for them. The losers will be small competitors and entrepreneurs (squeezed out by the higher barrier to entry) and consumers.

It's no surprise to see utilities among the first to change sides - they're government-regulated monopolies that have a lot to gain and nothing to lose.
