Question: Should I let my sister drive my car even though she has a suspended license?

( Back )

Answer #1:

Simple answer - NO! No liscence = no car.

Answer #2:

You answer is clearly written in your question. She has a suspended license which means if she did something bad, or even if it wasnt her fault, your car isnt covered in the event of a car accident, also if she gets pulled over...car impounded..lots of money. Doesnt seem like a smart choice if you love your sister (keeping her from going to jail) and love your car (if you want to see it again)

Answer #3:

No, I don't think that will be a good idea, at all. So what if she's mad at you for a couple weeks, beats having to be the outrageous impound fee. Also, if she happens to drink, and God forbid something happens you will feel responsible! Sometimes, you just have to put your foot down and say enough is enough!

Answer #4:

No she could go to jail if they catch her driving with no license or get a ticket

Answer #5:

Tell that c-bag: "No license no car"...seriously...don't risk an impound. Bonfire=she's going to get drunk or get hard to remove stains in your backseat (yes...THOSE stains). Means...you're going to be taking the bus.

Answer #6:

no. offer to drive her to the courthouse but not to pay her fine. offer to loan her $20 taxicab money for her next errand, get it in writing that it's a loan, and when she doesn't pay it back use that as cheap leverage against her ever borrowing the car. it will be $20 well spent.

Answer #7:

no. go somewhere else or put the car somewhere else and said u forget about she wants to borrow the car @ just said u sent the car to garage etc. White lie is ok. Ur sis seems to be reckless person. avoid trouble

Answer #8:

Absolutely not! You shouldn't even be letting her use your car for her "little errands." If she has an accident, your insurance will cover any damage she does, but they will probably drop you afterwards. There is even a chance that they will refuse to cover you because you knowingly let an unlicensed driver drive your car.

Your sister can cry and argue all she wants. No license means that she has no business being behind the wheel of a car. She shouldn't be driving down your street, let alone around town.

Answer #9:

Sure you can let her drive your car.....but only if you are willing to suffer the financial consequences of her actions....and that's going to be bad.

If she gets pulled over - the car gets impounded. You get to pay big bucks to get it out. That includes towing/storage Per Day, impound fees etc. So, if you have several hundred dollars laying around with nothing to do......

If she gets into an accident - since you knowingly let a person with a suspended license drive your car - you will be guilty of "negligent entrustment". That means - any person she hits can sue YOU personally for any and all damage and injuries your sister causes. Do you have a couple hundred thousand laying around with nothing to do? Because, it's really not that hard for an accident to cause several hundred thousand dollars in damage/injuries. And telling the family of the person she hit or killed while driving drunk unlicensed ..."I'm really sorry. But my sister gets real bitchy if she does not get her way" ain't gonna cut it.

Over the years, I've handled thousands of automobile accident claims. Lots with alcohol and deaths involved. And in none of them, did the person cause the wreck on purpose. In none of them did they plan it or see it coming. They all thought it would happen to someone else. I was just running a little errand to the store to get smokes.....uh huh.

Your sister has already shown her immaturity. She's lost her license for a reason.

She "swears she won't drink"....but her word on that is good because she wants to willfully and deliberately break the law by driving with no license.....

If you want to help your sister out....give her $20 and the number for a local cab company. They will be happy to take her to and from the party.

I'll put it to you this way....As long as your sister has no license, she should never drive your car. Not for any reason. periond.

If you let your sister drive your car - your every bit as stupid as she is.

Answer #10:

Loaning your car to anyone without a drivers license is a recipe for disaster. You could regret it for the rest of your life. Don't be foolish, DO NOT DO IT !

Answer #11:

No. If she were involved in an accident, your insurance would not cover a driver with a suspended license, your car could be impounded and you could get fined for allowing someone with a suspended license to drive your car. Nothing about this idea is good. You are asking for serious legal and financial problems.

Answer #12:

"I know that in CA, if she gets pulled over or in an accident, then my car gets impounded for 30 days (at best, plus a $1000 fine to get it out) and I get a MISDEMEANOR on my record."

You really think THAT'S the worst that can happen to you? How about the fact that if you let a person who does not have a valid driver's license operate your vehicle that your insurance is void, and you would become responsible for everyone's damages/injuries should your sister have an accident? How do you feel about being in debt for the rest of your life while you pay off a judgment?
You sister is a spoiled brat who needs to learn a life lesson right now. Regardless of your sister you are not obligated to help her commit a crime or put your financial future at risk. Tell her to get her life in order, take some responsibility and get her license back. If she bitches tell her a true sister wouldn't but their sibling at risk like that, and that you don't consider her a sister anymore.

Answer #13:

You need to get yourself some professional help. If you cannot work up the assertiveness to do what you already know is the right thing, you will most assuredly be taken advantage of by others in your lifetime.
